New Years Eve 2009

Today is New Year's Eve. It all started at Fogo De Chao, a restaurant my dad took my family to for a celebration. During dinner my dad asked me what my goal was going to be for 2010. My first goal is to go to the Summer Nationals in fencing. The other goal is to read 100 books by December 31, 2010. Last summer I did a good job of reading for my summer reading challenge but I want to read even more this year. I love all of the Chronicles of Narnia but so far I have just listened to them on tape or my dad has read them to me. I hope maybe this year to read them myself. If you are going to suggest a book for me, here are the kinds of books I like. I like fiction. I like books with sword fighting, imaginary creatures, anything to do with the Middle Ages and love. I also have read all of the American Girl Books except Mia, Julie, and Nikki. They are too mature for me right now. Ramona and all of her stories have been good, but I think I have read most of them. I am very interested in the Lemony Snicket stories. They are interesting and don't have a happy ending which I enjoy sometimes. You may think I am rotten but I don't always like books that are "Happily Ever After". The myths are also favorites of mine even though they are not about Jesus.

Now, let me tell you what kind of books I don't like. I don't like Junie B. Jones stories, they are all misspelled and weird. Ghost stories are not my favorite either. I like picture books but I don't think I want to include them in my 100 books unless it has a lot of writing and is really really good. Oh yeah, no boyfriend and girlfriend stories. That is toooo old.

Please help me read my way through the year 2010 by telling me all about your favorite chapter books. I will comment about each book I read. Please check back on my blog to keep me updated and also feel free to comment on other people's suggestions. That's how I will know when it's a really good book. If a book is hard to find, please help me by telling me where it can be purchased.

Thank you for helping me to become an official bookworm!

  1. Oh, Gracie! I love your blog! May I suggest Wolfram von Eschenbach's PARZIVAL? It's the original story of the quest for the Holy Grail; I played the grail maiden once upon a time in a place far away.

  2. Hi Gracie, I'm the Mommy of Jared Cramp and you guys were born on the very same weekend. Only two days apart!! I'm so pleased that you enjoy reading!! I LOVE to read. I remember loving the Laura Ingalls Wilder series. It's about life in frontier times so there is a lot of adventure. I love reading to Jared also and a book that I think you would really enjoy is Hugo Cabret. I'll be looking forward to your posts and maybe I'll get some good references from you.

  3. Gracie,

I look forward to hearing all about the books you read. I am excited that you already have some recommendations of which I am unfamiliar. Are you still going to have time for me to read with you or is your goal going to get in the way? I hope not otherwise we will never know what comes of you know who.

  5. Gracie...I think this is a wonderful goal for 2010! You must read The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It is my favorite book of all time! Have you read the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books yet? I always laugh when I read them. Kathryn thinks you should read the Elsie Dinsmore books. You can check them all out of the library at school! Did you know I used to wish I could get locked into the public library at night so I could just read and read and read all night long and never go to sleep?! I just LOVE to read! Happy reading!

  8. Gracie,
I loved the Boxcar Children books when I was growing up. I thought the idea of living in a boxcar sounded fantastic! ;)
Another favorite of mine is The Secret Garden, and I enjoy re-reading it every couple of years (along with Little Women!).
I can't wait to hear what you think of the many books you'll be diving into!
    Love,
    Ms. Krueger
