Mischievous Girls

"Betsy-Tacy and Tib" is the second book by Maude Hart Lovelace that I have read. The book is about three little girls who are friends. Two of the girls are middle class and one of them is the highest class, her family is wealthy. All of the girls are Christians, and I like that, but they think that they have to be good to go to Heaven. The girls wanted to be good like the saints for a day and they punished themselves for doing something bad. They punished themselves by pinning marble bags into their dresses and when they did something wrong they placed a pebble in it. Putting the pebbles in turned out to be so much fun that they began to get into a lot of mischief. In an other chapter, they wanted to remember each other when one of them died, so they cut off a piece of each others hair and placed them in pill boxes because they could not afford lockets. This book is funny because the girls are getting into a lots of trouble. My next book is "Betsy and Tacy Go Over the Big Hill."

I am still reading "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", and it is getting really good. Charlie has found the golden ticket and has gone into the chocolate Factory. Charlie tells us how good the smell of chocolate is. I can't wait to read about Oompalumpas!

  1. Gracie,

I read your latest blog reports on your today. They were very interesting. It sounds like you are reading a variety of stories and that must be fun. I am currently reading a book about a knitting club. Actually, the first book by this author, Kate Jacobs, was called the Friday Night Knitting Club. It is about a group of women who form a knitting club on Friday nights and become good friends as well as learning to knit. The daughter of one of them is a good baker and likes to make cupcakes and muffins for their meetings. Mom might like this book. In this book she is older and going to baking school.

Hope you are enjoying your "Lucy" belt. We saw the first Narnia movie this weekend when Lucy was little. It was on television.

    Happy reading!

    Love, gma

  3. Gracie,

I started "The Lightning Thief" last week. Every time I pick it up I think of you :)

Toby, Caitlynn and I have started, "Tales of Ancient Egypt" by Roger Lancelyn Green. We read it aloud together. It is about the myths and legends of Ancient Egypt. The first tale we read was of Ra and his Children. Very interesting. We contrasted how Ra was described with the Biblical account of creation. Did you know that the tale says Ra just spoke and the world came into being. Does that remind you of something? Very cool.

Toby is still getting used to reading. It can be overwhelming, but he has all the tools to read anything in the world. Do you have any suggestions to encourage him to read on his own? Just asking.

Great blog btw. Hope you have a terrific time at the "all girls" sleepover! I can't wait to hear all about it Monday morning :)

    Love,

  4. Mrs. Maines,
I have an idea for Toby, he should read the Magic Tree House series. I think he would like the magic of Morgan LeFay and traveling in time. My favorite one is "Mummies in the Morning". I would be happy to loan it to him if he would like it.

Thank you for telling my mom how to get music on my blog. The music is enjoyable to listen to while I am working on this and I hope everyone will take delight in it while they are reading my posts.

Mrs. Maines I am enjoying carpooling with you because I think it's nice to talk to you. Thank you for visiting and encouraging me.

    Gracie
